Nigeria Police Force has recovered one thousand one hundred and eighty-one firearms including Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, and rocket launchers.

According to Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, at a one-day conference organised for senior officers, the firearms were recovered between January and July this year.

Adamu said four thousand one hundred and eighty-seven high profile suspects were arrested, including one thousand six hundred and twenty-nine armed robbery suspects, one thousand and fifty-three suspected kidnappers, one thousand and twenty-three over cultists and four hundred and eighty-two over murder cases within the period.

He said three hundred and eighty-nine stolen vehicles were also recovered from criminal elements with five hundred and six kidnapped victims rescued in the period under review.

According to him, three hundred of the victims were rescued in Zamfara alone, saying two hundred and forty-nine of the victims were rescued between July nine and twenty-three, from bandits and militias operating in and out of forests in the state.

He said the achievements were attributable to the narrowing of the trust gap between the Police and citizens, saying the communities had demonstrated impressive commitment toward partnering the Police in presenting a common front against criminal elements.

Adamu said the achievement was suggestive of the institutional capability of the Police to undertake specialised operations and take the anti-crime war to the camps and other safe havens of high-profile criminals.

He said the achievements were also indicative of the effectiveness of the Operation Puff Adder and other strategies employed by the Nigeria Police to address prevalent crimes in the country.
